Achilles是在围攻特洛伊一战中名震天下的希腊英雄。在他小时候，被母亲放入冥河中，因此刀枪不入。但在这个过程中，他的足跟被母亲握住，所以遗留了足跟这个弱点。他的命运是最终被特洛伊王子帕里斯刺伤足跟而死。所以，Achilles' heel的意思是“致命弱点、弱点、唯一致命的弱点”。
