Foot the bill 买单

foot 指的是 “底部”，也就是账单的底部总额，因为账单上的总金额通常都是列在最下面。foot the bill 原本是指：检查账单上的金额是否正确。后来才慢慢变成 “付款、买单、结账、承担费用、负担费用”的意思。
