想要引导方式状语从句，一般会使用as, like, as if, as though, however等连词。如：When at Rome, do as the Romans do./She can't draw like her sister can./Arrange your hours however you like.

和even if与even though一样，as if与as though也是一组近义词，而且它们的用法和意义几乎完全一样，只是as if在当代英语中比as though普通得多，可能是因为它比较简短吧。

当as if引出的方式状语从句所表示的情况不是事实，而是主观想象或夸大性的比喻时，通常用虚拟语气。从句中谓语动词一般用过去时，be动词常用were, 但在现代英语中也常见到单数was的情况。如：The injured man acted as if nothing had happened to him.

假如as if引出的方式状语从句所表示的情况是事实或具有很大可能性时，通常用直陈语气。谓语常为look, seem, taste, smell, sound等。如：It looks as if they have succeeded in the experiment.

the way是"用这样的方法，像......那样"，它也是可以引导方式状语从句的。比如：He doesn't speak the way I do./I was never allowed to do things the way I wanted to do them.
