29 THE BROOK	二十九小溪

I come from haunts of coot and hern,	我来自骨顶鸡和苍鹭的老巢，
I make a sudden sally,	我突然迸涌而出，
And sparkle out among the fern,	从蕨丛中来，我晶莹闪耀，
To bicker down a valley.	急急地冲向山谷。
By thirty hills I hurry down,	我匆匆流经三十座山峰，
Or slip between the ridges,	轻滑过山脊之间，
By twenty thorps, a little town,	把二十个村庄，一座小镇，
And half a hundred bridges.	五十座桥梁甩后边。
Till last by Philip's farm I flow	我终于流过菲利普农庄，
To join the brimming river,	汇入浩荡的大江，
For men may come and men may go,	世上的人们来来往往，
But I go on for ever.	我却永远奔前方。
I chatter over stony ways,	在青石道上我潺潺流过，
In little sharps and trebles,	一路上铮铮淙淙，
I bubble into eddying bays,	汨汨地卷入山凹的漩涡，
I babble on the pebbles.	絮语在卵石丛中。
With many a curve my banks I fret	我七拐八弯，冲刷着堤岸，
By many a field and fallow,	流过闲地和农田，
And many a fairy foreland set	我让柳兰和锦葵装点
With willow-weed and mallow.	仙境一般的岸沿。
I chatter, chatter as I flow	潺潺地，潺潺地不断流淌，
To join the brimming river,	我汇入浩荡的大江，
For men may come and men may go,	世上的人们来来往往，
But I go on for ever.	我却永远奔前方。
I wind about, and in and out,	我百转千回，进山出穴，
With here a blossom sailing,	有时候载落花远航，
And here and there a lusty trout,	我怀里处处有鳟鱼活跃，
And here and there a grayling,	有茴鱼悠然来往，
And here and there a foamy flake	我漫游前进，这里那里
Upon me, as I travel	激溅起飞沫似雪，
With many a silvery waterbreak	我纵身跃过金色的砂砾，
Above the golden gravel,	让朵朵银浪碎裂，
And draw them all along, and flow	一路上我带着轻波细浪，
To join the brimming river,	汇入浩荡的大江，
For men may come and men may go,	世上的人们来来往往，

I steal by lawns and grassy plots,	我流过如茵的草坪悄悄，
I slide by hazel covers;	滑过榛树荫丛;
I move the sweet forget-me-nots	我漂来甜蜜的勿忘我草，
That grow for happy lovers,	送到恋人们手中。
I slip, I slide, I gloom, I glance,	我滑行，流漾，我朦胧，闪亮，
Among my skimming swallows;	任燕子飞掠水面，
I make the netted sunbeam dance	我教如网的阳光跳荡，
Against my sandy shallows.	射向沙洲浅滩。
I murmur under moon and stars	我披着月色和星光低语
n brambly wildernesses;	在荆棘丛生的大荒;
I linger by my shingly bars;	到卵石滩前我徘徊不去;
I loiter round my cresses;	环抱着水芹倘佯;
