1. 现在分词作表语表示分词主语所具有的特征和性质时，主语多是物。

The game is very exciting.

这个比赛很令人激动。

The music is much pleasing to the ears.

这音乐很悦耳。

He was surprised at the news as the news was really very surprising .

听到这个消息他很吃惊，因为这消息确实令人吃惊。

2. 过去分词作表语表示主语所处的状态，逻辑上成被动关系时，主语多是人。

He's gone .

他走了。

You are mistaken .

你错了。

He was moved to tears by the film.

他被电影感动得流下了眼泪。

3. 分词和动名词都可以作表语，分词作表语是对主语进行描述，而动名词作表语说明主语的内容。

My job is teaching .

我的工作是教书。

The news was surprising .

这消息令人吃惊。

The most important thing is giving the new generation a good education.

最重要的事情是给新一代良好的教育。
