6. A cat seller

A famous art collector is walking through the city when he notices a fat cat lapping1 milk from a saucer2 in the doorway of a store and he does a double take3.

He knows that the saucer is extremely old and very valuable, so he walks casually into the store and offers to buy the cat for two dollars.

The store owner replies, "I'm sorry, but the cat isn't for sale."

The collector says, "Please, I need a hungry cat around the house to catch mice. I'll pay you twenty dollars for that cat." And the owner says "Sold," and hands over the cat.

The collector continues, "Hey, for the twenty bucks I wonder if you could throw in that old saucer. The cat's used to it and it'll save me from having to get a dish."

To which the owner says, "Sorry buddy, but that's my lucky saucer. So far this week I've sold sixty-eight cats."

卖猫的人

一位著名的艺术收藏家在城市里散步时发现一个商店门口有一只肥猫正在舔食一个碟子里的牛奶。他仔细看了一下，知道这只碟子非常古老并且很值钱，于是他很不经意地走进商店出价两美元要买这只猫。

店主回答：“抱歉，这只猫不卖的。”收藏家说：“求求你了，我家里需要一只饿极了的猫来抓老鼠。我付你20美元买这只猫。”店主说：“成交！”就把猫递了过去。

收藏家继续说：“嘿，既然给了你二十美元，我想你能否附带赠送那只旧碟子。这只猫习惯了用这只碟子，那也省得我再去找一只碟子。”对此，店主回答说：“对不起，伙计，但那是我的幸运碟。本周我已经卖出了68只猫了。”
