I couldn't find my cheque book.
Then I remembered that it was in my briefcase.
And my briefcase was in my car.
T:So you went back to your car.
J:I went back to my car.No briefcase.
T:And then you went to the police?
J:Not immediately.Before I went to the police station,
I called the client's office.
No luck.They said the briefcase wasn't there.
T:Excuse me.Yes?Yes,there is.Julia Marsh.Really?I'll tell her.
It was very kind of you to call.Bye.
That was the manager of the Europa restaurant.
Just after lunch today he found a black leather briefcase under a table.
When he opened the case,he found a lot of papers.
He said they had the name MAP on the them.
And he found a cheque book with the name Marsh on it.J Marsh.J for Julia?
J:Ah.

We got on Highway 101 with our lights and sirens going.
Once we crossed the Bay Bridge and were heading towards Berkeley,
I looked up and I could see the flames on the ridges and I was,I was,shocked.
When we turned the corner
we saw a thirty-foot jet of gas shoot out at us-a broken gas line.
Exercise 5
While we were on Broadway Terrace,we were asked to fight an attic fire in one of the homes.
After we made entry into the house we climbed up a narrow staircase
into a small child's room and I only had a second to look around me
before the room filled with smoke and it was too hot to stand up.
So we backed out down the staircase.
And as we were coming down the stairs,
I saw photographs hanging on the wall and I felt at that point
that these people were going to lose their home and I thought that if
I could take the pictures they would at least have something.
So I snatched them off the wall and I grabbed a towel and I wrapped them in a towel,
and I hunched over them so that they wouldn't get wet,
and I put them down in a neighbour's yard.
It was unbelievable to see so much burning at once and,
um,it was like someone had dropped a bomb on Oakland.

I have been a registrar for twenty-three years.
I'm not sure exactly how many couples I've married in those years,
but it's probably around ten thousand.
The most weddings I've ever done in one day was actually twenty-two.
I have never actually forgotten the words completely,
but I have sometimes started the first declaration a second time,
or started the second declaration first.
Even though I personally have married about ten thousand couples,
what I have to remind myself all the time is that for them
it's their first time,and for them it's a very special day.

And now over to Terry Price for the weather forecast.
Well,a mixed picture over the next few days.
Today in Britain,very wet and windy-in northern Europe.
You can see from the satellite picture that the highest temperatures,
as they so often are,are in the southern parts of Europe,
where it's also quite dry,particularly the eastern parts of the Mediterranean.
The forecast suggests that it's going to be quite cold
over northwestern parts of Europe for the rest of the day,
even some snow on the Scandinavian mountains.
So that's today's chart,
with showery conditions in many parts of northern Europe
but the best of the sunshine in the south
and throughout the Mediterranean and in the Canary Isles as well.
And pretty good but cool in the eastern parts of Europe too.
Now let's look at tomorrow's chart.
Very much the same in the south except that the rain is starting to
push down into the northern parts of the Mediterranean there.
Elsewhere,staying fine in eastern Europe and fine in central
and eastern parts of the Mediterranean as well.
But still wet and windy in many northwestern parts of Europe,
including southern parts of Scandinavian,and a bit cool too.
