!LESSON  ONE
[00:13.58]Words have one or more  than one syllabe.
[00:27.04]For example,word has one syllable:word.
[00:34.12]Lesson has one syllables: les-son.
[00:40.28]syllable has three syllables:syl-la-ble.
[00:47.65]Listen to and repeat these adjectives,which all have one syllable.
[00:55.20]tall            short           fat
[01:03.97]thin            old             young
[01:13.93]big              small
[01:20.77]With one-syllable aduectives like these,
[01:27.01]you just add-er to the end of the word to make the comparative.
[01:34.46]Now repeat these adjectives and their comparative forms.
[01:40.83]tall-taller
[01:46.79]short-shorter
[01:53.14]fat-fatter
[01:59.41]thin-thinner
[02:06.07]old-older
[02:12.00]young-younger
[02:18.03]big-bigger
[02:23.88]small-smaller
[02:30.44]But the adjuctive good is different.Remember?It's good-better.
[02:39.82]Now repeat:good-better.

[02:51.39]let's use these adjectives to make some comparisons between someone else and you.
[02:59.44]For example,I say,"Susan's tall"
[03:05.70]And you say,"Susan's tall,but I'm taller.I say.
[03:15.13]"That's man is thin."And you say,"He's thin,but I'm thinner."
[03:23.99]Ready?Let's begin.Susan's tall.
[03:31.85]Susan's tall,but I'm taller.
[03:39.01]That man is thin.
[03:43.27]He's thin,but I'm thinner.
[03:48.91]That man is short.
[03:53.48]That man is short,but I'm shorter.
[04:00.04]Linda's father is old.
[04:04.90]Linda's father is old,but I'm older.
[04:11.66]Carol is young,
[04:16.21]Carol is young,but I'm younger.
[04:22.14]Mike is fat.
[04:26.61]Mike is fat,but I'm fatter.
[04:33.06]She's small.
[04:37.29]She's small,but I'm smaller.
[04:44.13]The other students are good.
[04:49.10]The other students are good,but I'm better.
[04:55.76]Now some spelling,When I say the comparative form of an adjective,
[05:04.40]you say it too,and spell it.
[05:09.05]For example,I say,"Thinner."And you say:
[05:16.32]Thinner.T-h-i-n-n-e-r.
[05:26.58]Now let's begin,Thinner.
[05:32.75]Thinner.T-h-i-n-n-e-r.
[05:43.69]Heavier.heavier,H-e-a-v-i-e-r.

[10:05.28]I say,"Jeff and Mike are both tall."And you say:
[10:12.65]Who's taller,Jeff or Mike?
[10:17.40]OK,let's start,Carol and Susan are both pretty.
[10:24.85]Who's prettier,Carol or Susan?
[10:30.31]Jeff and mike are both tall.Who's taller,Jeff and Mike?
[10:39.84]Sam and Jake are both thin.
[10:45.62]Who's thinner,Sam or Jake?
[10:50.66]Mike and Steven are both handsome.
[10:56.12]Who's handsomer,Mike or Steven?
[11:02.07]Carol and Susan both have long hair.
[11:07.53]Who has longer hair.Carol or Susan?
