Science Report  (130)

----Dislexia ()

No one knows the cause of dislexia, but some scientists believe, it may result from chemical changes in a baby's body long before it is born. Doctor Samuel Orton fifty years ago was one of the first persons to develop ways to teach persons with dislexia. In 1949, a year after his death, doctors, teachers and other experts formed the Orton Dislexia Society to continue his work. Doctor Silvia Richardson is a member of the Orton Society. She says that after dislexic persons solve their prob lems with language, they often show themselves to be especial ly intelligent or creative. Doctor Richardson warns against trying to teach dislexic children to learn the same way other children do. She said they think differently and need special kinds of teaching help. But Doctor Richardson said it is important to help these people develop skills in every area possible.
