  1.depressing a. 沉闷的,令人沮丧的

  A: They failed the game! Haw depressing!

  甲:他们箱了这场比赛。真扫兴!

  B: Really? it's unbelievable

  乙:真的吗?太难以置信了!

  2.despair n. 失望,绝望

  A: How's your colleague?

  甲:你的同事怎么样?

  B: He is in despair. All hope is gone.

  乙:他绝望了,希望都破灭了。

  3.despondent a. 甲失望的,丧气的

  A: You look despondent. What's wrong?

  甲:你的样子很沮丧。怎么了?

  B: The boss's fired me.

  乙:老板把我解雇了。

  4.disappointed a. 使失望的

  A: I'm disappointed in you!How would you have lied like that?

  甲:我对你感到失望!你怎么能这样撒谎?

  B: I' m terribly sorry, please forgive me.

  B: Neither do I.

  A: The ending of the story was a real letdown.

  B: It's a waste of time to see such a film.

  13.optimistic a. 乐观的,乐观主义的

  A: What do you think of the future of your country?

  甲:你觉得你们国家的前途怎么样?

  B: I'm optimistic about the country's economic future though it has beets affected by the economic crisis of Southeast Asia.

  乙:我们国家虽然受到东南亚经济危机的影响,但我对我们国家的经济前途持乐观态度。

  14.pessimistic a. 悲观的

  A: Are you sure of getting the well-paid job?

  甲:你确信能得到那份高薪的工作吗?

  B: No, I'm still pessimistic about my chances of getting it.

  乙:不,我对于自己能否得到那份工作还很悲观。
