[00:03]What Is Your Direction Indicator of Ascending [00:08]One windy spring day, [00:10]I observed young people having fun using the wind to fly their kites. [00:14]Multicolored creations of varying shapes and sizes [00:17]filled the skies like beautiful birds darting and dancing. [00:22]As the strong winds gusted against the kites, a string kept them in check. [00:27]Instead of blowing away with the wind, [00:29]they arose against it to achieve great heights. [00:33]They shook and pulled, but the restraining string and the cumbersome tail kept them in tow, [00:40]facing upward and against the wind. [00:42]As the kites struggled and trembled against the string, [00:46]they seemed to say, “Let me go! Let me go! I want to be free!” [00:50]They soared beautifully even as they fought the restriction of the string. [00:55]Finally, one of the kites succeeded in breaking loose. [00:59]“Free at last,” it seemed to say. “Free to fly with the wind.” [01:05]Yet freedom from restraint simply put it at the mercy of an unsympathetic breeze. [01:10]It fluttered ungracefully to the ground and [01:13]landed in a tangled mass of weeds and string against a dead bush. [01:17]“Free at last” free to lie powerless in the dirt, [01:21]to be blown helplessly along the ground, [01:24]and to lodge lifeless against the first obstruction. [01:27]How much like kites we sometimes are! [01:30]The Heaven gives us adversity and restrictions, [01:33]rules to follow from which we can grow and gain strength. [01:37]Restraint is a necessary counterpart to the winds of opposition. [01:42]Some of us tug at the rules so hard that we never soar to reach the heights we might have obtained. [01:48]We keep part of the commandment and never rise high enough to get our tails off the ground. [01:54]Let us each rise to the great heights, [01:56]recognizing that some of the restraints that [02:00]we may chafe under are actually the steadying force that helps us ascend and achieve.
