[01:26.94]Preston: Oh yes. I know the company. Any special reasons for wanting to leave?

[01:34.69]Tang: Practical reasons really.

[01:39.13]The company is based in the city center,

[01:43.89]and to commute every day is too much for me.

[01:48.85]Preston: Yes,I see.

[02:00.76]Tang: Yes.

[02:10.35]and who is able to make new contracts faster than our competitors.

[02:16.52]Tang: Yes,I understand that.

[02:20.67]Preston: Though the hours may not be fixed,

[02:25.71]you really have to be prepared to work hard, perhaps harder than you imagine.

[02:32.66]Tang: Well,I am quite prepared to do that.

[02:37.70]Preston: Good.

[02:40.76]B. What Are the Hours?

[03:41.31]Water: The pay is the same, but we bring in meals for you,

[03:47.08]and you get half a day off for every 40 hours over.

[03:52.93]Ma: That sounds okay.

[03:56.30]Waters: We're interviewing twenty applicants for this position.

[04:01.95]Can you think of any special reasons why we should hire you?

[04:07.51]Ma: Well,I have been a receptionist before.

[04:13.15]I enjoyed it,did it well, and have good recommendations.

[04:20.52]Waters: We'll contact your references next week,

[04:26.08]and should make our deci-sion and contact all the applicants by Friday.

[04:49.31]Passage An Interview

[04:55.84]Mr.Raymond Lee,Director of Personnel at the Dallas Electric Company,

[05:04.17]gives some advice on how to be successful in a job interview:

[05:10.94]First,plan well.

[05:15.79]One type of planning is to list all paid or volunteer work you have done,

[05:23.34]where you did it,who your boss was, exactly what you did,

[05:30.32]and what you have learned there, that is,

[05:35.36]how the experience has helped you grow profes-sionally.

[05:41.13]You also need to think about what kind of person you are.

[05:47.30]What you like to do and why.

[05:51.66]If you haven't thought about that ahead of time, you're asking for trouble.

[05:59.24]Second,be yourself. It's really important for the interviewer to like you

[06:08.38]and want to give you a chance.

[06:12.32]Show enthusiasm for hard work,

[06:17.29]talk about how you have handled daily problems well,

[06:22.85]show that you want to succeed in what you do.

[06:28.81]This is very important if there is more than one applicant,

[06:35.26]who has the basic quali-fications.

[06:39.91]Third,relax and have a conversation with the interviewer.

[06:48.37]Fourth,give no simple yes-no answers. Always give examples.

[06:58.35]Talk about yourself and what you've done enthusiastically and in detail.

[07:06.61]Lastly,be sure you know what kind of business a company or organization does.

[07:15.96]And be sure you dress for business, not for a sporting event.
