[00:11.00]Li Ming asking Jenny for advice through e-mail

[00:12.00]LiMing:I'm getting ready for my trip to Australia and I'm very excited.

[00:13.00]I need some advice from you,Jenny.

[00:14.00]I know you have travelled to many foreign countries,

[00:15.00]so you probably know some important things

[00:16.00]that I should keep in mind when planning my trip.

[00:17.00]Jenny:I'm so excited for you.You are going to have a great experience.

[00:18.00]This is your first time travelling to Australia, isn't it?

[00:19.00]LiMing:Yes,that's right.

[00:20.00]There are so many things to think about when planning for such a big trip.

[00:21.00]Can you give me a hand with this?

[00:22.00]What do I need to remember when I plan my trip?

[00:23.00]Jenny:Planning the trip can be half the fun!

[00:24.00]Start by making a list of things to do.

[00:25.00]As each one is accomplished, you can cross it off the list.

[00:26.00]That way you can see how close you are to being ready.

[00:27.00]First of all,do you have your passport?

[00:28.00]LiMing:Oh,yes,I applied for one right away

[00:29.00]and it should be arriving in two weeks.

[00:30.00]Jenny:Do you seed a visa to enter Australia?

[00:31.00]I know Canandians don't require a visa, but I'm not sure about Chinese citizens.

[00:32.00]LiMing:Yes,I think we do.How do I do that?

[00:33.00]Jenny:You must apply for your visa at the Australian embassy.

[00:34.00]Can you ask one of the supervisors of your trip? They will probably know.

[00:35.00]LiMing:Good idea! The next question is what I should pack.

[00:36.00]I can only take one bag besides my carryon.

[00:37.00]I'm not a very good packer.

[00:38.00]Every time I go on a trip I take so many things that I never use,

[00:39.00]and usually forget one or two things that I really need.

[00:40.00]Last summer,I got on an airplane wearing just shorts,a T-shirt and sandals.

[00:41.00]I had packed some nice clothes to wear out at night,

[00:42.00]but I forgot to bring socks!I had to waste so much time shopping for socks!

[00:43.00]Jenny:That's my point!If you had made a list,that wouldn't have happened.

[00:44.00]LiMing:That's why I'm asking you for advice!

[00:45.00]What else should I be aware of?

[00:46.00]Jenny:When you are packing,

[00:47.00]remember that the airlines are very strict

[00:48.00]about the items that you can bring in your carry-on luggage.

[00:49.00]You can't bring dangerous things, for example fireworks or pocker knives.

[00:50.00]LiMing:That's rather strict, isn't it?Do they search every single bag?

[00:51.00]Jenny:All carry-on luggage goes through the scanner

[00:52.00]but they don't actually open every single one.

[00:53.00]That means they choose a certain number

[00:54.00]of bags on each flight and ask the owner to unpack everything.

[00:55.00]LiMing:Oh,I see.Jenny, what did you do about spending money?

[00:56.00]I have to be sure I don't run out of money,

[00:57.00]but I am nervous about carrying too much cash with me.

[00:58.00]Jenny:Good thinkin,LiMing.You are absolutely right.

[00:59.00]Some people order traveller's cheques from their banks.

[-1:10.00]Jenny:Great!I think you are going to have a wonderful time in Australia

[-1:11.00]because you will be able to speak English to all the new friends you meet.

[-1:12.00]Let's talk again soon.

[-1:13.00]I love sharing the excitement of planning a trip with you.
