A Read the passage.

Every eighteen months,computers double in speed and halve in price.

The main kinds of computers we use are:palmtops,notebooks,laptops and desktops.

Palmtops are hte smallest because they fit in the palm of your hand.

They are light and have a small keyboard.Notebooks are bigger than palmtops with a larger keybo ard.

Laptops are even bigger,and they are heavier than palmtops and notebooks.

We call them laptops because you can put them on your lap while you work.

The biggest computers most of us use are desktops.

We use these at our desks and they have a full-size keyboard.

The biggest computers in the world are Crays.We use these to forecast the weather.

They can make billions of calculations a second!

Lesson 21 Millions Of years ago...

Katie:What are you studying,Dan?

Dan:I'm reading about dinosaurs.It's very interesting.

Dan;Listen!Dinosaurs lived millions of years ago.

They were the biggest and heaviest animals ever to live on earth.

One of the biggest dinosaurs was the tyrannosaurus.It was five meters tall and weighed 4000 kilogra ms.

Dan:The brontosaurus was even heavier and weighed 30.000 kilograms!

Katie:Wow,you get to read fun things for your science class!

Dan:This isn't for my science class.I haven't started my homework yet.

Lesson 25 Big Trees

Size is relative.When we say that an oak tree is very tall,we mean it is tall compared with similar trees.

But an oak tree is small compared with a giant redwood tree.

The tallest oak tree can grow to a maximum of forty meters.

But the giant redwood tree grows to a height of ninety meters.

The lowest branch of the biggest of the big trees forty-five meters from the ground1

It is two meters in diameter and forty-fiv meters long.

The branch alone is bigger than the biggest oak tree in the world!

Age is relative,the oldest oak tree in England is william the Conqueror's Oak in Windsor Park.

Tim:So do I.

Tim:Are yours the same as mine?

Dan:No,mine are smaller than yours.

Dan:I have Brazilian coins,German coins,Japanese coins and Canadian coins..

Dan:...but I never have any American coins.

Tim:Neither do I.We have a lot of coins but no money.

"Seven hundred and fifty grams,"Mom answered."That's a lot of lemons and sugar!"Katie exclaimed.

Mom and Katie grated the lemon rind onto the sugar in a big bowl.

Then,they squeezed the lemons and added them to the sugar.Katie stirred the mixture.

Then,they poured in two liters of boiling water and stirred again.

Finally,They added eight liters of cold water and put the lemonade into the refrigerator.

"I can hardly wait to drink this!"Katie said.
