For an even better view, its rooftop observation deck allows one last city review before your Paris geography test. Let’s see, there’s the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Sacre Coeur. And out of sight way over there is a great destination for a day trip. You can drive there in about an hour. Just north of Paris is Chantilly. It’s noted for horse racing and its wonderful chateau.
The chateau at Chantilly is my favorite day trip from Paris. I think it offers France's best chateau experience. Just 30 minutes by train from Paris' Gare du Nord, it’s got one thing you won’t find at other site, tranquility. It’s not so crowded.
Chantilly has everything, a moat, storybook towers, peaceful sculpted gardens, great art. The chateau museum is a mix of many periods. This is in accordance with the will of the last Duke.
Although the present chateau is largely a reconstruction from the 19th century, parts are much earlier. And a castle has stood on this land since the 13th century.
The chateau has stables literally fit for a king. The duke thought he'd reincarnate as a horse, so he built a thoroughly royal stable to house himself in his next life. Hmm, which horse is the duke?

It will pooh you.
No crowds mean we can take our time to savour what must have been a setting for many brilliant festivities, but all was not sweetness in light, what about Louis XIV's famous chef Vatel. The poor guy was driven to suicide when fresh fish failed to arrive here on time. But then the French take their food seriously.
