brainstorm是由美国创造学家A·F·奥斯本于1939年提出的，用以指一群人围绕一个特定的兴趣或领域，进行创新或改善，产生新点子，提出新办法，也就是：“集思广益”。因此，当美国人说"We have to stop arguing and brainstorm."时，他/她要表达的意思就是:"We should stop debating and let's think together."、"We shouldn't argue with each other and it's time for us to discuss together."。
