　　1.动词be有时可跟副词作表语：

　　I have been out for a walk.

　　我出去散步去了。

　　I'll see if he is around.

　　我去看他在不在附近。

　　She had been away on a long trip.

　　她出远门去了。

　　Summer is over-it is autumn.

　　夏天已经过去——现在已是秋天。

　　When will you be back?

　　你什么时候回来。

　　2.有些其他系动词也可跟副词表语：

　　I feel down today.

　　我今天情绪很低。

　　You'd better keep away from that chap.

　　你最好避开那家伙。

　　I don't feel quite up to the journey.

　　我感到不能做这次旅行。

　　He looks awfully down.

　　他看来情绪很低沉。

　　3.介词短语作表语时更多一些：

　　Paris is among the largest cities in the world.

　　巴黎是全世界最大都市之一。

　　I was at a loss what to say.

　　我不知说什么好。

　　She was beside herself with joy.

　　她高兴得要命。

　　These mobile phones are in great demand.

　　这种手机需要量很大。

　　She's off smoking now.

　　她戒烟了。

　　Lots of people are out of work at present.

　　目前失业的人很多。

　　4.一些其他系动词后也可跟这种表语：

　　He looked in splendid health.

　　他看来身体很好。

　　Keep off the grass.

　　请勿践踏草地。

　　It has grown out of date.

　　这已经过时。

　　They ran out of coal.

　　他们的煤用完了。

　　5.这类表语后有时还跟另一介词短语：

　　He is in charge of trade union work.

　　他负责工会工作。

　　They are in favor of reform.

　　他们赞成改革。

　　We must get in touch with her.

　　我们必须与她取得联系。

　　Soon he fell in love with her.

　　不久他爱上她了。

　　She was at a loss for an answer.

　　她不知如何回答是好。
