“I used to”和“I'm used to”傻傻分不清楚?

I USED TO / I DIDN’T USE TO

First, we can say, “ I used to” when talking about things that we did frequently in the past but we don’t do today.

首先,当我们谈论过去经常做但今天不做的事情时,我们用“I used to”。

For example, I used to take piano lessons when I was a child. I took piano lessons. But nowadays I don’t take piano lessons, so I can say, “I used to take piano lessons.”

例如,我小时候经常上钢琴课。我上过钢琴课。但是现在我不上钢琴课了,所以我说,“I used to take piano lessons”。

过去常常

I also used to have long hair, but today I have short hair.

我过去常常是长头发,但是今天我头发是短的。

It’s something that was true in the past but now it has changed. It’s not true anymore, so I use “ I used to” plus the base form of the verb. I used to take piano lessons and I used to have long hair, but not anymore.

这件事在过去是真实的,但是现在变了。变成不是真的了,所以我们用“I used to”加动词原形。我过去常常上钢琴课,有长头发,但是现在这些都不了。

Now I can make a negative sentence by talking about things that were not true in the past and they are true today. For that I use “ I didn’t use to” plus the base form of the verb. I didn’t use to teach English. In the past I had other jobs, other professions, but now I’m an English teacher. It’s a situation that changed. It was different in the past and now it’s something else. I didn’t use to teach English, but now I do.

同样的我们可以造一个否定句,当我们谈论到过去不是事实,但现在成为事实的情况。用的就是“I didn't use to”加上动词原形。I didn't use to teach English. 就是说我过去有其它工作,其它专业,但是我现在是一名英语老师了。这是一种情况的改变。与过去不同,现在变了的意思。我过去不教英语,现在我教了。

“I used to” and “I didn’t use to,” plus the base form of the verb, are used for situations that were different in the past when compared to today. Got it?

“I used to”和“I didn’t use to”加上动词原形,用于表示与现在比较,过去与现在情况不一样了。

I’M USED TO / I’M NOT USED TO

Now, we also have the expressions “ I’m used to” and “ I’m not used to.” These are different. These are used for talking about customs, things that you are accustomed to doing.

现在我们来讲一下“I’m used to”和“I’m not used to.”。这两个表达与之前不同,是用于谈论习惯的。

For example, here in the United States, I was born in the United States, I’m used to driving on the right side of the road. In England they drive on the left, so I’m used to driving on the right side of the road and I’m not used to driving on the left side of the road, because my custom is to drive on the right. It’s different in England, so I’m not accustomed to driving on the left.

举个例子,这儿在美国,我是出生于美国的,我们习惯于在道路右侧行驶。而在英国是在左侧,所以我习惯于在道路右侧行驶,并且不习惯在道路左侧行驶,因为我的习惯是在右边的。而这与英国不同,所以我不习惯在左侧开车。

习惯于

Another good example is when it comes to eating meals. Here in the United States we eat our biggest meal usually at dinner, so I’m used to eating a big meal at dinner. But my husband is from Brazil, and in Brazil they often eat a big meal at lunch, and then a lighter meal at dinner, so my husband is not used to eating a big dinner. He’s used to eating a large lunch.

还有一个很好的例子是饮食。在美国,我们的晚餐是一天当中最大的一餐。但是我来自巴西的丈夫,在他们国家,午餐是一天当中最盛大的一餐,其次是晚餐。所以我的丈夫不习惯吃一顿盛大的晚餐。他习惯于吃盛大的午餐。

When using “I’m used to” and “I’m not used to” to talk about customs, then we use the -ing form of the verb. I’m used to eating a big dinner. I’m not used to eating a large lunch.

当用“I’m used to”和“I’m not used to”来讨论习惯时,我们用动词加ing的形式。I’m used to eating a big dinner. I’m not used to eating a large lunch.
