外国人不把“可口可乐”说成Coca-cola，而用另外一个词！

如果你要买可口可乐，不能说coca，也不要说cola，coca-cola也有点长了，老外说的特别简单：coke。

coke, 做名词，表示焦炭，作动词，表示把…变成焦炭。

可口可乐的颜色就和焦炭一样黑，所以native speaker习惯用coke来指代可口可乐。

It wasn't until June 1941 -- 67 years ago that we embraced the abbreviation and first used the term Coke in magazine ads. That began an entire ad campaign in which we connected the names Coke and Coca-Cola. We actually said that Coke means Coca-Cola and told people it was OK to use just Coke.

In the UK it is illegal to sell someone Pepsi if they ask for Coke without first asking them if the substitution is acceptable. The Trading Standards Institute (and the licensed trade) refer to this as Passing Off.

在英国，如果有人点了Coke，而你在没有事先询问顾客是否接受同类品替换的情况下，向他销售百事可乐是违法的。贸易标准协会(和许可贸易)将此称为假冒。

Hence, I would recommend asking for a Coke or a Pepsi if you have a strong preference. In the UK, I've rarely heard people ask for a cola (in 20 years of bar work), so if you don't have a preference, just say Coke.

因此，如果你有强烈的偏好，我建议你点单时就说Coke或者 Pepsi。在英国，我很少听到有人要cola(在酒吧工作了20年)，所以如果你没有偏好，一般就说“Coke”。

什么时候会说coca-cola这个全名呢?

可能是别人给你拿错了，拿成百事可乐了，你需要更正一下，这时就需要特地把全称coca-cola说出来了。肯定也有人喜欢百事可乐，百事可乐，只用说Pepsi /'pepsi/。

例：

I’d like a Pepsi, please.

我要一个百事可乐。
