I am Zhou Xun. I'm getting my makeup done right now, and I'm going to attend the movie premiere for Confucius. Tonight the movie will be screened at the premiere. There will be a lot of friends coming to watch the movie, and it's also my first time watching the movie. I'm very much looking forward to it.

我是周迅，我现在正在化妆，待会儿要出席 《孔子》的首映式。今晚这部电影就要进行首映。很多朋友都会来看，这也是我第一次看这部影片。我很期待。

You have two big movies coming out, one right after the other. You've got Confucius and then True Legend. How are you feeling about everything? That sounds like a bit of a nerve-wracking prospect.

你有两部大片连续上映，先是《孔子》，接着《苏乞儿》。你对这一切有什么感觉?听起来压力很大。

I'm quite excited because I play two very different characters in these movies. I've never played a mother or a significant historic figure before, so everything was brand new to me. Also, both films were produced by groups of very talent[ed] people, so I hope the audience will enjoy them as well.

我很兴奋，因为我在这两部影片里扮演了两个非常不同的角色。我从没演过母亲或是重要的历史人物，所以一切对我来说都是全新的体验。此外，这两部影片的制作团队都非常杰出，希望观众也会看得开心。

For somebody that is still so young-you're only 35-you've been in this industry for a long time, nearly 20 years now. 50, you know, you're the perfect person to tell us about what it's like within the industry here in China.

你才35岁，对某些人来说还很年轻，却已经在这个行业里打拼了将近20年。所以由你来告诉我们中国电影圈的情况再适合不过了。

Being an actress is a very interesting job because I don't even consider it as my job, but as my life now. Being an actress in China, I'm actually a very lucky actress. I think just be yourself and it should be fine, especially now that Chinese movies are becoming more diverse with more viewers overseas-stepping onto the global stage. So, just be a responsible actress.

演员是个很有趣的工作，因为我并不认为这是一份工作，而是我的人生。作为中国的演员，我其实非常幸运，我认为我只要忠于自我就行了，尤其现在中国电影随着海外观众增加、并逐步踏上国际舞台而变得越来越多元化。所以，只要当个负责任的演员就可以了。

I'm currently in a recording session for a song for my latest movie, True Legend, or in Mandarin, Su Qi Er.

我现在正在为我的新片《苏乞儿》录制一首歌。

You are also a singer as well. You've got two CDs to your name so far. What is it about singing particularly that you love? Why would you not just want to stick to acting?

你也是歌星，目前已出了两张唱片。歌唱有什么地方是让你特别喜欢的?为什么不想只是演戏呢?

I like singing because it's another way to express myself. I've enjoyed singing since I was little. Also, because I am an actress, I have the opportunity to sing, so it's quite good. Music is like a kind of medicine that has the power to cure. When you are sad or happy, it can make you forget sadness or be even happier.

我喜欢唱歌，因为唱歌是表现自己的另一种方式。我从小就喜欢唱歌。此外，作为演员让我有了唱歌的机会，这样很好。音乐就像种具有疗效的药物。在悲伤或是快乐的时候，音乐可以让人忘却悲伤或是变得更快乐。

Away from the singing, away from the acting, how do you deal with the celebrity side of things with, I guess, you know, people following you around and you can't walk down the street?

先不管唱歌与演戏的事，你怎么应付身为名人的生前，例如许多人到处跟着你，你不能随意走在街上?

This is what I'm trying hard to adjust to because I don't like being followed or noticed when I'm not working, but I can't do anything about it. So I try not to let it bother me too much when I get upset , but this adjustment process takes quite a long time, and this type of paparazzi culture in China is getting more severe as well.

我一直努力要适应这一点，因为我不喜欢有人在我不工作的时间跟着我或是注意我，可是我没办法改变这种现象。所以，我尽毡不让这种情况过度影响我的心情。不过，这种调节过程需要相当长的时间，而且八卦文化的现象在中国也越来越严重。

Let's go way back. You did come from a very average background I guess it's fair to say. Was fame something that you had a burning desire for?

我们来回顾一下。你的出身算是相当平凡，成名是不是你所极度渴望的目标?

No. Because I was born in a very small town outside of Hangzhou, and even though there was a cinema in our town, movies still seemed very far away to me. I didn't know the production process at all, so I never expected to become an actress. But ever since I was young, I loved singing and dancing, and then I was admitted into a dance academy. After I was admitted, a director spotted me to become an actress. So, it was almost that I was destined to act.

不是。因为我出生在杭州城外一个很小的小镇里，虽然镇上也有电影院，但电影在我心目中却仍是非常遥不可及的东西。我完全不知道电影的制作过程，所以也从来没想过要成为演员。不过，我从小就热爱唱歌和跳舞，后来也进了舞蹈学院。我进入舞蹈学院之后，一位导演发现了我，让我成为演员。所以，感觉上就像是我命中注定要演戏。

Which has been the role that's pushed you the most as an actress?

Li Mei[Gu Xiaomeng] in Feng 5hang (The Message) . I played a taxi driver in The Equation of Love and Death, and I played a spy in The Message.

《风声》里的顾晓梦。我在《李米的猜想》里饰演出租车司机，在《风声》里则是扮演间谍。

The Message is a World War Ⅱ espionage film. Is it true that you had an emotional breakdown20 when you were filming it?

《风声》是一部关于第二次世界大战的谍战电影。你在拍摄期间真的发生了情绪崩溃的情况吗?

Yes. The role in The Message was the first time that I needed to hold things in and withdraw a bit when acting. It is relatively easier to let go of emotions and have that release when acting, but it's hard to withdraw and hold things in. Also, the character was constantly living on the edge and facing death, so I felt the pressure from the role as well.

确实如此。《风声》里的角色是我第一次必须以情绪内敛、稍微与角色分离的方式演出。表演的时候，直接释放情感比较简单，要内敛、压抑则比较难。此外，这个角色也一直处于险境，随时面对死亡的威胁，所以我也会感受到这个角色的压力。
