Dave's class at school were studying English history, and one day their teacher said to them, “Well, boys, on Friday we're all going to get on a bus and go to Conway. There's a beautiful castle there, and we're going to visitit.” The boys were very happy when they heard this.
Dave他们班在学校学习英国历史，有一天他们老师跟他们说，“哎，男孩们，我们周五要乘公共汽车去康威，那里有一个漂亮的城堡，我们会去参观它。”男孩们听到这个消息时非常开心。
"Now, has anybody got any questions?" the teacher asked.
“现在，有谁有问题要问吗?”老师问。
"How old is the castle, sir?" Dave asked.
Dave问：“这个城堡建立多久了，老师?”
"It's about seven hundred years old, Dave." the teacher answered.
“它已经有七百年历史了，Dave。”老师回答。
"What's the name of the castle, sir?" another boy asked.
“那这个城堡叫什么名字呢?”另一个男孩问。
"Conway Castle." the teacher said.
“康威城堡。”老师说。
On Friday the boys came to school at 9 o'clock and got into the bus. They visited Conway Castle, and then they came back and went home.
男孩们周五九点去学校上了公交车，他们参观了康威城堡后就回家了。
“Well,” Dave's mother said to him when he got home, “did you like the castle, Dave?”
“哎，”Dave一回到家他妈妈就问他，“你喜欢那座城堡吗，Dave?”
“Not very much,” Dave answered. “The stupid people built it too near the railway.”
“不怎么喜欢，”Dave回答，“那些愚蠢的人把它建得离铁路太近了。”
Text B What Are You Going to Do?
Robert and Peter are talking about the end of the school term. Robert is going to leave school and start work, but Peter is going to stay at school.
Robert and Peter正在讨论学期末的事。Robert就将要离开学校去工作了，但是Peter仍将留在学校。
PETER: Are you going to leave school at the end of the term?
PETER：你学期末要离开学校了吗?
ROBERT: Yes, I am.
ROBERT：是的。
PETER: What are you going to do?
PETER：你打算干什么?
ROBERT: I'm going to be a clerk.
ROBERT：我打算做一名办事员。
PETER: What does a clerk do?
PETER：办事员是干什么的?
ROBERT: He works in an office. He writes letters and reports, and he types.
ROBERT：办事员是在办公室工作的，他写信和文章，还有打字。
PETER: I want to be a vet.
我想做一名兽医。
ROBERT: A-what?
ROBERT：做什么?
PETER: A vet-a veterinary surgeon.
PETER：a vet 就是兽医。
ROBERT: Good gracious !What's that?
ROBERT：天啊!那是什么职业?
PETER: A vet's a man who takes care of sick animals. He's an animal doctor.
PETER：兽医就是一个照顾好生病的动物的职业，他是位动物医生。
ROBERT: I once read a story about a person who talked to animals. It was very interesting.
ROBERT：我曾经听说过一个关于一个人跟动物说话的故事。那有趣极了。

Mrs. Neat
Mrs. Neat was tidy and orderly. One day she got on a bus, went up on top and sat down. When the conductor asked her for her fare, she opened her bag, took out her purse, closed her bag, opened her purse, took out ashilling, closed her purse, opened her bag, put in her purse and closed her bag. She paid her fare. The conductor gave her a ticket.
