Well, sometimes a tooth that has been treated endodontically will become infected or develop acyst.

It doesn't always mean that the tooth will have to be extracted. It can usually be treatedsuccessfully by performing an apicoectomy.

Apicoectomy is the removal of a very small Part of the infected root tip.
齿根尖切除就是要将受到感染的根梢的一个非常小的部分切除掉。
Another Part of the treatment is to remove the infected (or cystic) tissue from the jaw-bonesurrounding the root.
另外，还要将牙根周围颌骨受感染的组织切除掉。
And what is needed for this?

Sometimes a retrograde silver amalgam filling is needed to seal the small opening in the roottip to be sure that the tooth won't become infected again.

An incision is made in the gum just above the tooth at the level of the root tip.
