Dango Nguyen, a former Georgia firefighter who appeared on “The Walking Dead” and other TV shows, has died of cancer at the age of 48.

Nguyen, who also had trained as a professional wrestler, served on the Athens-Clark County Fire Department for almost 20 years before leaving to pursue a career as an actor, according to CNN.

The former smoke-eater appeared in several episodes of the hit show about a zombie apocalypse on which he played a guard who worked for The Governor, a villain who frequently fought with protagonist Rick Grimes.

After his stint on the show ended, Nguyen — whose stage name was Dango Nu Yen — appeared in other shows, including “The Red Road,” “Banshee” and “Meet the Browns.”

“It is with tremendous sadness that we mourn the loss of one of our former firefighters. Dango Nguyen passed away early this morning after a hard-fought battle with cancer,” the department said in a post on Facebook.

Nguyen is survived by his wife, Michelle, and his family, the department said.
