尼加拉瓜现代作家，拉丁美洲现代主义诗歌最重要的代表人物。达里奥自幼聪颖，三岁学作诗，十一岁开始以多种笔名在报纸上发表诗作，被誉为“儿童诗人”。达里奥一生对诗歌进行了孜孜不倦的革新，他的作品形式新颖，韵律和谐，富有音乐性，优美、清新、感人，致力于描写雅致的艺术珍品和异国的风貌，突出幻想的意境和悲观的情调等。他追求“纯粹的美”，认为天鹅是美的象征，因在作品中反复描写这一意象而被称为“天鹅诗人”。
