Gazing on mume flowers,
怅望梅花驿，
I’ll send love to the high towers,
凝情杜若洲。
Where fragrant clouds hang low and sweet blossoms blow,
香云低处有高楼，
What a pity that her tower’s so high
可惜高楼，
That my orchid boat cannot come nigh!
不近木兰舟。
Will the twin fish bring her word to my eye?
缄素双鱼远，
Will she write verse on a red autumn leaf?
题红片叶秋。
I’ll ask the stream to carry to her my lonely grief,
欲凭江水寄离愁，
But eastward it will flow.
江水东流，
How can it westward go?
那肯更西流？
