Nine Poems on Inspirations of Autumn (5)

Chen Xianfa

Each instant. In mirrors I’m an intact

Undamaged-whole-piece. But, retreating, away, farther-away –

Persons must, at the end of the day, finally break away from “fake” self-identity

When listening to rain sounds at mine night window

I’m feeling that, among 10s of 1000s of raindrops, there’s that one drop

that leaves all others, and goes swimming lone to the lake centre pavilion

Amid crowd roaring there’s

more often than not that one face turning round, round & round against the wind

Persons have to, when it comes down to it, bury these

yes very vivid but really “fake” self-identities.

Walk away, away farther

When ash turns rose again

how few, few, the pairs of eyes that recognize?

In autumn wind, there are extremely profound

invisible cloaks, invisible persons…

V

Every moment. In the mirror I am intact

an undamaged whole piece. Only retreating farther away –

Man has to ultimately break away from a fake self-identity

When listening to the rain at my night window

I always feel among tens of thousands of raindrops, there is that singular drop

leaving all others, swimming alone to the lake-center pavilion

In the roaring crowd, there is

always that singular face turning around against the wind

Man has to ultimately bury these

vivid yet fake self-identities. Walk farther away

When ash turns into rose again

how few pairs of eyes will still recognize it?

In the autumn wind, there are such profound

invisible cloaks, invisible men…
