Footprints in the Sand是由基督教诗歌Footprints改编而来的一首歌。最初是Cowell想出主意要基于这首诗来写一首歌的，接着他又询问作曲和制作人团队 David Kreuger和Per Magnusson是否能写些东西来完成这首歌曲。他们在Richard Page马布里的家里开了个关于歌曲创作的会议，并在第二天顺利完成了这支单曲。在一次HitQuarters的采访中，Magnusson说他们本来认为这首歌给Westlife,唱比较合适，但是最后这首歌却给了Lewis。当Cowell向Lewis提起这首歌曲的构思时，她表示这首歌“相当有趣”。为了完成这首歌，Cowell还设法联系了一个制作团队。Lewis谈起这首歌时，形容它“很感人，歌词很振奋人心”。这首歌的主题就是“在别人需要帮助时施以援手”。
