道冲，而用之或不盈;

　　渊兮，似万物之宗;

　　湛兮，似或存。

　　吾不知谁之子，象帝之先。

　　【译文】

　　‘道’是虚空的，没有具体的形态。但它对宇宙万物的作用却无穷无尽。‘道’是无比深远的，是宇宙的起源;‘道’是幽隐无形的，我们看不到它的存在，但事实上‘道’无处不在。

　　我无法想象‘道’本身到底来自何处，有多久远，但我知道它的存在先于天帝。

　　【英译】

　　'Tao' is like a infinite empty vessel without material configuration. But it's effect for universe is inexhaustible. The far-reaching 'Tao' is the origin of universe and world; 'Tao' is so indescribability, deep and remote that we can not cognize its existence. But, in fact 'Tao' is ubiquitous.

　　I can not imagine where it from is. I can not imagine how long has it been. It might appear to have been before universe.

　　所谓“象帝”可以理解为物质世界的总和。很多版本的注释也强调其包含了所有所谓的天神，由此可见，老子的哲学思想首先是无神的，至少他认为真理、规律是先于神明的。

　　早在几千年前，我们的祖先先贤能有这样的宇宙观、科学观，确实值得我们骄傲并认真地、深入学习和领悟他的思想。
