① increase作动词用时，可以是及物动词或不及物动词，意为“增长，增加”，读音为［ɪnˈkriːs］。

The population is increasing rapidly. 人口在迅速增加。

The driver increased the speed of the car. 司机加快了车速。

② increase作名词用时，读音为［ˈɪnkriːs］，为不可数名词，但可以说a rapid increase，a steady increase。
