【注释】该习语最早出现在1891年，当时的拼法是biteon the bullet，起源于外科手术。在没有麻醉剂的时代，医 护人员在为病人动手术时会递给他们一些东西(比如 皮带，如果在战场就是子弹了)，让其咬住来忍受痛苦。 现在，这一习语表示鼓起勇气或下定决心去做一件让 自己感到很困难的事情。
