【注释】源自古希腊神话中关于海克力斯(Hercules)的 英雄传说。古希腊厄利斯(Elis)的国王奥吉厄斯 (Augeas)养有3000头牛，牛棚30年未曾清扫，因此 粪秽堆积如山，恶臭熏天。希腊英雄海克力斯奉命在 一日之内将它清扫干净。后来，the Augean stable即指 very dirty place。stable除了泛指地点外，还可代表不良 的制度、下流的习俗及恶劣的作风等。人们常用(the) Augeanstable(s)喻指“长期形成的积弊;肮脏的地方”。
