周计划商务英语·第三周 星期四 上司，老板

     A：He's a good manager.
     B：That's a matter of opinion.
     A：What do you mean？
     B：I worked with him for two years.That was the worst time in my career.

     A：他是个好经理。
     B：仁者见仁，智者见智。
     A：此言怎讲？
     B：我跟他工作了两年，那是我职业生涯中最糟糕的时期。

     A：How would you describe your relationship with your boss？
     B：We have a fairly good working relationship，but there was also a rough spot.
     A：What do you think are his strengths？
     B：Well，he has an amazing ability to analyze information.And he is very good at making the right decision in tough situations.
     A：你怎么描述你和老板之间的关系？
     B：我们的工作关系十分融洽，不过，也曾有过摩擦。
     A：你认为他的长处是什么？
     B：喔，他有惊人的信息分析能力，很善于在错综复杂的形势下做出正确的决定。

     A：It's said that Mr.Green will be appointed as our head.
     B：In that case，I'd rather quit my job.
     A：Mr.Green has gotten many excellent achievements，he is qualified for it.
     B：I admire his achievements，but that doesn't mean that I'd like to vote for him.
     A：To me，that's the last straw.
     B：Mr.Green is like a robot，he doesn't give us any slack.
     A：Just because of this，you got a prize last month.
     B：I don't care much about the prize.
     A：听说格林先生要做我们的上司。
     B：如果那样的话，我宁愿辞职。
     A：格林先生取得了很多业绩，他是称职的。
     B：我钦佩他取得的业绩，但并不意味着我会投他的票。
     A：对我来说，那是最后一根稻草。
     B：格林先生像个机器人，他不让我们有一丝松懈。
     A：正因为如此，你上个月拿到了奖金。
     B：我不在乎那点奖金。

     A：Jenny，how are things going at the office lately？
     B：Very awful.A month ago，we got a new boss，and I am totally fed up with him.He is really unreasonable about our workload.Since he came，I've been so busy I haven't had time to breathe.
     A：Sounds terrible.What about his personality？Is he a nice guy at least？
     B：Not a little.He not only gives us too much work，but also he is very critical.He constantly.
     yells at us or criticizes us.What's worse，he has crossed the line too many times with his sexist comments.This time I am really going to report him for sexual harassment.
     A：What happened？Did your boss say something to offend you at work？
     B：He constantly lets inappropriate things slip out，referring to the women employees as"girls"or calling us"sweetheart"or"darling".
     A：Don't you think you are overreacting a little？Calling by nicknames shouldn't be so bad.
     B：It's about respect.He treats us with such a patronizing attitude，as if we are not equal or not as serious as our male co-workers.It's his attitude that needs to be changed.Not just his words.
     A：What a terrible working environment.Why don't you just quit.
     A：珍妮，最近工作情况如何？
     B：糟糕透了。一个月前我们来了新老板，我烦透了他。他毫无道理的给我们增加工作量。自从他上任，我一直很忙，连喘气的机会都没有。
     A：听起来很糟糕。他的人品如何？至少人品还不错吧？
     B：才不是呢。他不仅给我们分配很多工作，还非常挑剔。他总是对我们大喊大叫或批评我们。更糟糕的是，他多次使用歧视的语言，这次我真的要举报他的性骚扰行为。
     A：发生。了什么事？你的老板在工作中说冒犯你的话了吗？
     B：他经常出言不逊，把女员工称作"小女孩"，或叫我们"甜心"或"亲爱的"。
     A：你是不是反应有点过激了？叫你们昵称没有那么严重吧？
     B：这是关于尊重的问题。他用这样傲慢的态度对待我们就好像我们与男同事不平等或不如他们那样严肃认真似的。他要改变的不仅仅是他说的话，更是他的态度。
     A：多么糟糕的工作环境呀。你为什么不辞职？

     A：Where's our boss！I need him to sign a few documents and contracts.I checked in his office，but he's not there.Is he out of the office now？
     B：Yes.Today is Thursday，so the boss went off to his MBA seminar class.He is out of the office every Thursday and Friday mornings.And he has classes all day Saturday.
     A：What's he studying？
     B：He is finishing up a special continuing education program for executives.He can continue working，taking a few classes in a state university，and in two years he will complete his MBA.
     A：Why is he so enthusiastic about completing his MBA？He is no longer a young man.
     B：I just heard he might be selected to fill the vacancy in the CEO slot.
     A：No wonder he's been so stressed and bossy.Now，he must have lots of homework to do.
     B：As far as homework goes，it's a breeze for him.He just has his secretary do his homework.
     A：老板在哪里？我要找他签几份文件和合同。我去他办公室找过，可是他不在那儿。他现在下班了吗？
     B：是的。今天是周四，所以我们老板去上工商管理硕士的课程了。每周四和周五上午他都不上班。周六全天他也去上课。
     A：他学什么呢？
     B：他参加了针对管理人员开办的特殊继续教育项目。他可以一边继续工作，一边去州立大学听课，两年就能完成工商管理硕士的全部课程。
     A：为什么他如此热切要完成工商管理硕士呢？他已经不是年轻人了。
     B：我刚听说他可能被选中接替执行总裁一职。
     A：难怪他最近一直很紧张和专横。现在，他要做很多家庭作业了。
     B：作业对他而言是轻而易举的事。他只要把作业交给他的秘书就行。
