美国人很喜欢举办party,每逢生日、结婚，节日、搬家等特别的日子，都会邀请亲朋好友一同庆祝。

may, might, can, could都可以用干表示“请求同意”，can是最一般的用法;may和mighi较为正式，委婉;could 和might的语气较弱，对自己的要求能否得到允许没有把握。所以对不是太熟的朋友用may是最恰当的。
