1. If only ... had done表示对过去情况的虚拟。

If only I hadn't lost my watch!

若是当初我没有把表给丢了该多好啊！

If only I had known the news earlier!

要是我早一点知道这个消息就好了。

2. If only ... did/were表示对现在情况的虚拟。

Oh, if only she knew how I missed her!

哦，若是她知道我多么想念她该多好啊！

3. If only ... were/was +doing表示对现在进行的情况的虚拟。

If only it were raining now!

要是现在在下雨该多好啊！

4. If only ... were to/could/would/might/should +动词原型，表示对将来情况的虚拟。

If only it would rain tomorrow!

若是明天下一场雨该多好啊！

5. ... as if ... had done表示对过去情况的虚拟。

The young man looks as if he had been ill for a long time.

那个年轻人看上去好像病了好长时间似的。

6. ... as if ... did/were表示对现在情况的虚拟。

He talks to us as if the whole world belonged to him.

他对我们说起话来就好像整个世界都属于他似的。

7. ... as if ... were doing表示对现在进行的情况的虚拟。

Jack looks as if (as though) he were doing his homework. Actually, he is reading a cartoon book.

杰克看起来好像正在做家庭作业。事实上，他在看漫画书。

8. “... as if ... were to/could/would/might/should +动词原形”表示对将来情况的虚拟。

It seems as if she were to start at once.

好像她马上要动身了。

注意： as if引导的从句有时用陈述语气，表示有根据的推测。

It looks as if it is going to rain.

天看上去好像要下雨。
