1. have egg on one's face **出丑,丢脸

例 Rather than admitting he was wrong, Principal Dorn kept trying to prove he had made the right decision when he changed the students' dress code so that any kind of clothes would be allowed. By the end of the month the school had egg on its face because of news reports that showed kids coming to school in bikinis.
