开篇语:

Hi, everyone. This is Keke Net English. Welcome to Juliet’s Morning English Class. As a saying runs, “An hour is worth two in the evening.” And another saying goes, “An early bird catches the worm.” So, what are you going to get at this morning? Do follow me and I’m hoping that we can spend a wonderful and meaningful time here.

课题讲解:

We’ve a way of saying “That seems possible.’ It usually means that the speaker feel something is logical or easy to understand. Guess what it is. Let’s listen to the following mini situational dialogue to get the answer.

(Scene:It happens between two co-workers.)

Mary:It’s really difficult when a family member is sick.

John:I can imagine. You must be worried about your mother.

Have you got the answer? It is “I can imagine.” The Chinese for it is “是啊,我理解。” or “我知道。If sb burdens his mind to you, this word can play his role to console him or her. ” Let’s look at the sentence structures about this word:

1.I can imagine + N. (A noun can be put after the verb——imagine.)

2.I can imagine ( that ) + S + V( An objective clause which is introduced by “that” can be put after the verb——imagine. )

Let’s take a look at two examples:

1.I canimagine it must have been like a nightmare.

Tip:Nightmaremeans “a dream that is very frightening or unpleasant”.

2.I can imagine that she’s excited about getting married.

Tip: “To be excited about something” means “ feeling or showing happiness and enthusiasm”. For example:

1.The new restaurant is nothing to get excited about.

2.Don't get too excited by the sight of your name in print.

What’s more, another situational dialogue, let’s have a look at:

Tim:Sorry about the mess. It’s been busy lately.

Rose:I can imagine.

Tip:“To be sorry about” means “full of shame because of something bad ”. For example: Aren't you sorry for what you've done?

Next I need your cooperation——be active and answer my questions finishing listening to the following two dialogues again. First of all, I tell you myquestions. They are as follows:

1.What happens to Mary’s mother?

2.What does John consol Mary.

3. Why does Tim say that he is sorry?

4. Why does Rose say he can imagine?

Listen to the following two dialogues again:

Dialogue 1:

Mary:It’s really difficult when a family member is sick.

John:I can imagine. You must be worried about your mother.

Dialogue 2:

Tim:Sorry about the mess. It’s been busy lately.

Rose:I can imagine.

Thesuggestive answersare as follows:

1. Mary’s mother is sick.

2. He says he can imagine how difficult it is when a family member is sick.

3. Because his room is in a mess.

4.Because Tim has been busy recently and have no time to clean up his room.

课堂总结:

Today we’ve learnt one short sentence used in spoken English——I can imagine. By the way, we’ve learned two set phrases: to be excite about something & to be sorry for something. Both “about” and “for”are used to introduce a cause.

结尾语:
