B：However, it is our usual practice to insure shipments for the full invoice value plus 10％. I don't know why you ask for more.

A：Well, I know that a range from 0％ to 50％ is reasonably accepted in the extra insurance value by Chinese insurance company. Besides, we are expecting 20％ profit from this deal. So if there's any wrong with this shipment, we want to get full covered.

B：OK, I see. In the light of our relationship, we will comply with your request. But the extra premium will be for your account.

A：I'm sorry I couldn't agree with you. I think the premium is already included in the CIF price.

B：That's true. But you ask for an extra insurance value, for which part you should take the bill. If we covered that extra expense, we couldn't make any profit from this transaction.

A：Would you please tell me your premium rate?

B：0.2％ of insurance value, our underwriter said.

A：Oh, that's a little expensive. As a rule, it should be charged at only 0.12％ of insurance value. Perhaps your underwriter asks you for more.

B：Not really. According to the route of this transportation and nature of this shipment, you should allow a small rise on premium rate.

A：Well, I will talk with the top dog and call you back after asking for his opinion.

A：我想投保发票金额的130％。

top dog领导者，掌权人，头儿

top意思是“最高的”。由此可见top dog就是狗群里地位最高、领头的那一只，也许是因为这条狗体格最高大强壮，也可能由于它最灵敏。中文里“狗”往往带有贬义，要是把某人比作狗，这人会给气得发昏。但是，英文的习惯却不同，“狗”常常不带有贬义，有时还是褒义的。top dog就是一个例子，这里的所谓“带头人”可能是企业主管，也可以是政府领袖，也许只是一家之主，反正任何群体多半总得有个大权在握的，而这样的人在英文里可以被称作：top dog。这个习惯用语说的是居支配地位的、有最高权力的人。
