Leaders are created by the demands that are placed on them.

Write a response in which you discuss the extent to which you agree or disagree with the statement and explain your reasoning for the position you take. In developing and supporting your position, you should consider ways in which the statement might or might not hold true and explain how these considerations shape your position.

五问：

（1）你能说说哪些人、哪些职位属于“ leader”吗？请说得具体一些，最好详细地描述某个历史上著名的领袖人物。例如：微软公司的创始人比尔·盖茨（ Bill Gates）带领人们进入 PC时代；开国领袖毛泽东（ Chairman Mao）领导中国人民建立了中华人民共和国；美国前总统罗斯福颁布新政，把美国从经济衰退中挽救回来。

（2）一般来说，领袖需要具备哪些特质？例如：非凡的智慧、坚强的性格、过人的胆识、强大的号召力、为人民服务的热情等。这些特质是天生的吗？抑或是通过后天努力而获得的？总的来说，你认为每一个人都能够成为领袖吗？

（3）时势造英雄，还是英雄造时势？以上两句话体现了怎样的因果关系？你对这种因果关系是如何评价的？或者说，这两者之间是互为因果的关系吗？

（4）优秀的领导会一直保持优秀吗？哪些因素可能会影响这一切？例如：决策失误、利益诱惑、舆论影响等。

（5）人们总能知道自己所需的一切吗？是否可能存在人民群众需要但却不知道自己需要的事物，需要一个优秀的领导者指引并且带领他们去寻找，从而满足人们的需要，譬如，环境保护。

翻译练习：

领导者产生于当特定条件使一个人的能力得到充分发挥（ give full play to）的时候。此处涉及两个前提条件：有能力的人以及能够展示他们能力的舞台。因此，尽管其他很多人同样出生在外敌入侵的时代，都没有成为中国的最高领导者，而毛泽东本人如果出生在另一个时期，或许也不会同样伟大。

Leaders are created when specific conditions can give full play to one's capabilities. Two prerequisites are involved here: people who are capable and a stage to display their capabilities. Therefore, many other people, though born in the same time of foreign invasion, did not become the top leader of China, and Chairman Mao himself would not be as great as he was if born in another time period.
