UN Calls for International Aid to Sudan

Rome: The United Nations World Food Program is asking for 106 million dollars to feed 2.5 million people in Sudan. It says the Sudanese are threatened(1) with serious food and water shortages(2) as a result of civil war and a lack of rain. The UN agency already provides food to almost 1.7 million people in Sudan. The World Food Program says fast action is needed to prevent a repeat of the conditions in 1998, when thousands of Sudanese died.
