The Average Family Expenses in X City
The two charts above tell us two facts. First, the annual income of average families in X city increased from $12,000 in 2008 to $16,000 in 2013, an increase of more than 33% in the five years. Second, with the rise in income the percentage of expenditure increased, too. Of the total expense, that spent on housing and food grew from 43% to 54%, which is an increase of 11% over the five years.
During the five years, the expenditure on housing grew by 7%, and on food, 4%. A possible explanation for the increase is that the greater earnings enabled families to eat better and live better, or simply because the prices on food and housing went up. If it is the former, we can assume that the people may look forward to a better life. But with the latter, they may expect a hard time ahead. (153 words)
