When it comes to how to measure a country’s progress, different people may have different standards of it. 1
Some people may hold that economic progress is one way to measure a country’s success. With economic progress, people witness great improvement in living conditions and increase of living standard. 2 While others maintain that other factors, such as better social systems and the increasingly enhanced international political status, are also important. 2 There are also people who think that GDP growth means social progress, technological development and productive increase. 2
There is no doubt that the factors such as economic progress, GDP growth, social systems and international political status are very important ones to measure a country’s progress. 3 But for my part, more indicators related to health and environment should figure into measures of national progress. 4 For instance 5 , less inequality and unemployment, less water and air pollution, good climate, less wetlands depletion and more forest cover, higher education and lower crime rate—all these indicators more accurately reflect the progress of human society. To conclude 6 , the overall social improvement can be an ideal standard of measuring a nation’s progress.
