繁体字，是指中国历史上最近的一次(即1956年)汉字简化后被简体字所代替的原来笔画较多的汉字。繁体字与中华五千年的文明史紧紧地联系在一起，密不可分。这种联系使繁体字在很大程度上成了中华古代文明的代名词，象征着灿烂的中华文化。目前，繁体字主要通行于台湾、香港、澳门与海外华人聚居区，使用人数超过三千多万。另外，一些繁体字还在日本和韩国使用。

Traditional Chinese characters are the complex form of characters that were formally replaced by a simplified style introduced in 1956. Traditional Chinese characters are inseparable from the five-thousand- year history of Chinese civilization. This link to a large extent has made traditional Chinese characters the synonym of ancient Chinese civilization, which symbolizes the splendid Chinese culture. Currently, traditional characters are mainly used in Taiwan, Hong Kong, Macao and among overseas Chinese communities where the number of users is over 30 million. In addition, some traditional Chinese characters are also used by Japan and South Korea.
