We see [00:13.57]on every hand the results of the farmer’s toil [00:16.08]and forecast in the springtime. Then it was that [00:19.81]he broke up the soil, sowed the seed, [00:22.32]pruned his trees, and guarded the tender plants. [00:24.83]Now we see the ripening crops. The trees are [00:28.99]bending with golden fruit, and abundance rewards [00:31.95]the farmer’s toil.But suppose in spring [00:35.23]the farmer had left the soil unturned, the seed unsown, [00:39.38]the trees untrimmed, and everything neglected, [00:42.78]what would now be the result? We should see nothing [00:46.17]but barren fields, overrun with weeds and briers; [00:49.34]and the farmer would feel that a winter of want [00:52.29]and distress was before him.And let us remember [00:56.12]that the autumn of life will come on apace; [00:59.73]and that what we now sow, we shall then reap. [01:03.24]If we would reap an abundant harvest, and gather [01:08.49]precious fruit, and secure an autumn of plenty [01:11.01]and prosperity, we must now, in the springtime of life, [01:13.52]be diligent and careful in cultivation of our hearts. [01:16.58]We must form only those habits which will produce good fruits. [01:20.41]Our acts must be noble, our thoughts and our words [01:24.57]must be pure, and our feelings must be kind. As we now sow, [01:29.27]we shall then reap. If we “sow to the wind, [01:33.54]we shall reap the whirlwind”.
