in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of China on this beautiful evening.

I wish to express,on behalf of the Chinese Government and people,
我代表中国政府和人民，
warm welcome to all of you who hae come here
for the Fortune Global Forum 2001 sponsored by AOL Time Warner.

3 The theme fo this Forum,"Next Generation Asia"
3 这次论坛的主题“亚洲新一代”，是很有意义的。
is of great significance,for the development of Asia
bears on the development and prosperity of all countries and regions
not only in this continent but also worldwide.
亚洲的发展，不仅关系亚洲各国各地区的发展和繁荣，也关系世界的发展和繁荣。
4 In the course of the 20th century,
4 在二十世纪的百年历程中，
we Asian people waged an unyielding struggle
to win national independence and liberation,
亚洲人民为争取国家独立和民族解放，
get rid of poverty and backwardness,
and bring about development and prosperity,
and scored remarkable achievements.
为摆脱贫穷落后，实现发展繁荣，进行了不屈不挠的斗争，取得了举世瞩目的成就，
All this has contributed significantly to peace and development in Asia
and the world at large.
为亚洲和世界的和平与发展作出了重大贡献。
The tremendous change and rise of Asia are a great miracle
that the Asian people have created and an important landmark
in the world development and progress of the 20th century.
亚洲的巨变和兴起，是亚洲人民创造的伟大奇迹，也是二十世纪世界发展和进步的一个重要标志。
5 Currently,the world is moving deep into multipolarity,
economic globalization is developing further
and science and technology are advancing rapidly.
5 当前，世界多极化和经济全球化深入发展，科学技术突飞猛进，
This has presented both new opportunities and challenges
to the development of Asia.
给亚洲的发展带来新的机遇，也带来新的挑战。
6 I hope that all of us here today will join hands

with all other peace-loving people and work for a lasting world peace
and common development and prosperity of all nations and regions.
