IKEA was started in 1943 by 17-year-old Ingvar Kamprad from Elmtaryd in Agunnaryd, South Sweden. The IKEA acronym comes from the initials of the founder and the places he grew up. The company operates over 300 stores as franchises in 37 countries. It has over 12,000 products in its catalogue. The company employs over 125,000 people worldwide. IKEA’s vision is “to create a better everyday life for the many people…by offering a wide range of well-designed, functional home furnishing products at prices so low that as many people as possible will be able to afford them”.
