用一个句子作状语，这个句子就是状语从句。状语从句通常用来修饰句子、动词或形容词，表示时间、地点、条件、原因、目的、结果、方式、比较等。引导状语从句的连词叫从属连词。

16-6 结果状语从句

在句中表示结果的状语从句叫结果状语从句。引导结果状语从句的从属连词主要有so that，so ...that ...，such ...that ...等。

1.引导结果状语从句的从属连词及用法

（1）so that引导结果状语从句意为“以致；结果”。如：

We arrived early，so that we got good seats.我们到得很早，因此我们座位很好。

He studied hard so that he passed the exam.他学习用功，所以考试通过了。

（2）so ...that ...引导结果状语从句意为“如此……以至于……”。如：

It was so hot that we wanted to go swimming.天气太热，我们想去游泳。

It was so dark that he couldn't see the faces of others.天是那样黑，其他人的脸他都看不见了。

（3）such ...that ...引导结果状语从句意为“如此……以至于……”。如：

They are such wonderful players that no one can beat them.他们都是出色的运动员，没有人能战胜他们。

She is such a good teacher that all the students like her.她是那么好的老师，每个学生都喜欢她。

注意：

so ...that和such ...that中的that有时（尤其在口语中）可省略。如：

I am so busy I have no time to write a letter.我很忙，连写信的时间都没有。

There was such a lot of rain （that）we couldn't go out.雨那么大，我们没法出去。

2.结果状语从句的位置

结果状语从句总是位于主句的后面。如：

It was very cold so that the river froze.天气寒冷，河水都结冰了。

Xiao Liu finished his work so well that the boss praised him in public.小刘工作完成得好，结果老板当众表扬了他。

It is such a heavy box that nobody can move it away.这是一个很重的箱子，谁也搬不走。

3.so ...that与such ...that 的用法辨析

so ...that ...与such ...that ...都表示“如此……以至于……”，so后接形容词或副词，而such后接名词。但有时“so+形容词”后还可接一个名词，且这个名词总是带不定冠词的单数可数名词，而不能是复数名词或不可数名词。如：

[正] He is so clever a child that we all like him.这小孩很聪明，我们都喜欢他。

[正] They are such clever children that we all like them.这些孩子很聪明，我们都很喜欢。

[误] They are so clever children that we all like them.

注意：

①so ...that ...句型可与such ...that ...句型相互转换。如：

It's such an interesting film that we all want to see it.这电影很有趣，我们都想看。

It's so interesting a film that we all want to see it.这电影很有趣，我们都想看。

②在much，many，little，few 这四个词前总是用so而不用such。如：

He had so many falls that he was black and blue all over.他摔了许多跤，结果全身都是伤。

He earns so little money that he can hardly feed his family.他赚的钱很少，几乎不能养家糊口。

③so ...that和such ...that有时引导的并不是结果状语从句，应注意区分。如：

I'm so happy that you could visit us.我很高兴你能来看望我们。（其中的so用于加强语气，相当于very，that后引导的是宾语从句。）

It's such a great pleasure that you are here.你在这里，真是令人非常高兴。（其中的that后引导的是主语从句，句首的it为形式主语。）
