一、不定冠词的用法

1.不定冠词表示类别

（1）泛指一类人或一类物。

A man is more intelligent than an animal.人比动物聪明。

We need a boy to do the work.我们需要男孩来做这工作。

【比较】 马是有用的动物。

①A horse is a useful animal.（“a+单数名词”表示一类）

②Horses are useful animals.（“复数名词”表示一类）

③The horse is a useful animal.（“the+单数名词”表示一类）

（2）用于专有名词前，表示“某一个”。

A Mr Smith wants to see you.一位名叫史密斯的先生想见你。

He thought he was a Zhuge Liang.他自以为是诸葛亮。

I want to be a Bill Gates.我想成为比尔·盖茨式的人物。

The story was set on a September in the 1980s.

这个故事发生在二十世纪八十年代的某个九月。

【提示】 a相当于“a certain或some”。

2.不定冠词表示数量

（1）表示数量“一”的概念。

I’ll be able to finish it in a day or two.在一两天内我会完成此事。

It took us an hour and a half to get there.去那儿花了我们一个半小时。

Speaking of Tom，he isn’t my cousin.He is a friend of mine.

谈起汤姆，他不是我的堂弟。他只是我的一位朋友。

【比较】

①A girl can do that.女孩也能做那事。（冠词a/an：侧重指类别）

②One girl can do that.一个女孩足以做那事。（数词one：侧重指数量）

（2）与表示时间或度量衡的名词连用表示“每一”。

每周一次：once a week/once each week/once every week/once per week

一周几次：once a week 一周一次；　　 twice a week 一周两次；

　　　　　three times a week 一周三次；four times a week 一周四次

The speed of cars in the city is limited to 40 kilometers an hour.

城市中，汽车的最高限速为每小时40公里。

Brush your teeth twice a day at least.每天至少要刷牙两次。

They are sold at two dollars a dozen.它们的售价是每打两美元。

3.不定冠词的其他用法

（1）用于序数词之前，表示“再一”之意。

Soon I saw a second plane.不久我又看到了另一架飞机。

Inspired by the spider，Bruce tried a seventh time.

受蜘蛛的启发，布鲁斯进行了第七次尝试。

【比较】

①This is the second time that I’ve read the book.这是我第二次看这本书。（顺序）

②Do you want to read it a third time？ 你还想再看一遍吗？（再一次）

（2）用于形容词最高级前不表示最高级，意为“非常”、“很”。

This is a most interesting story.这是一个极为动人的故事。

It is a most important question.这是个非常重要的问题。

It’s a fastest car.它是辆非常快的车。

（3）用于物质名词的数量化。

I’d like a tea and two coffees.请给我一杯茶和两杯咖啡。

She wants a tomato soup.她要了一份番茄汤。

（4）用于抽象名词的具体化。

The party was a great success.晚会开得很成功。

It’s a pleasure to work with you.与你一起工作是件乐事。
