[00:17.76]Many designers seek to create [00:20.67]the car of the future. [00:22.49]One device that is popular among car manufacturers [00:27.46]is an autopilot. [00:29.56]Autopilot permits a car to drive itself [00:33.12]without human control. [00:35.10]A recent car show in Geneva, Switzerland [00:39.07]also presented other possible designs, [00:42.13]including cars manufactured in 3D printers. [00:46.29]Rinspeed is a Swiss design company. [00:50.15]It demonstrated a vehicle based [00:53.06]on the U.S. electric car Tesla Model S, [00:57.07]but the Rinspeed car includes [01:00.42]a large television and an espresso coffee maker. [01:04.68]Frank Rinderknecht is the chief executive officer of Rinspeed. [01:11.26]He says he does not want to [01:14.18]just sit and watch the steering wheel turn [01:16.94]as he rides in a car with autopilot. [01:19.95]"I want to ride, I want to sleep, relax, [01:22.35]watch movies, news, anything else. [01:25.22]So that's the vision which we have. [01:27.57]That one day on the boring motorway traffic, [01:31.43]you just do anything which makes your life better," said Rinderknecht. [01:34.70]One of the most interesting ideas [01:37.35]presented at the show [01:38.98]is a car built on a 3D printer. [01:42.13]The German engineering firm EDAG [01:45.25]designed the car. [01:46.91]The body of the vehicle called 'Genesis' [01:50.37]is printed in one piece [01:53.56]from a material called thermoplastic. [01:56.24]Cristoph Horvath is a spokesman for EDAG. [02:00.35]"To create a car without the use of any tool. [02:03.57]This would be a real revolution for the industry," said Horvath. [02:06.67]EDAG says it based its design on a turtle shell. [02:11.33]The company says the design provides [02:15.29]the right amount of strength and firmness. [02:18.65]Other automakers did not look so far into the future. [02:23.06]Czech automaker Skoda presented its 'Vision C' model vehicle. [02:29.42]The car has an environmentally friendly natural gas engine. [02:35.29]Jo Davidson is a company spokeswoman. [02:39.15]She says the car releases very low levels [02:43.33]of the pollutant gas CO2. [02:46.13]Ms Davidson says the 'Vision C' plans to be launched in two years. [02:51.86]The Swedish company Volvo [02:54.93]presented its so called Estate Concept car. [02:58.99]Cecilia Stark is the design manager for Volvo. [03:03.70]She says their design is all about comfort and creativity. [03:09.07]"It's to show the Scandinavian arts and crafts and music scene, [03:14.89]and fashion and things like that. [03:18.75]To be emotional, expressive, charm-full," said Stark. [03:23.36]But the car also has high level technology. [03:27.32]All the controls in this car can be operated by voice [03:32.58]or a large touch screen. [03:34.85]Experts say the idea is close to being ready for sale to the public.
