Dear all,

After making an excellent personal contribution to our Consumer Banking business since joining us in 2006, John Lin and his family will be leaving China at the end of 2007 to take up a fantastic new opportunity in Dubai.

John has worked exceptionally hard since his arrival and has guided our Consumer Banking business successfully through several very difficult challenges. We have seen Consumer Banking's business quality and performance improve remarkably over the past quarters, and our thanks must go to John for making this happen. Consumer Banking is now very well placed for significant future development and growth.

While wishing John and his family all the very best in their new life in the Middle East, we also welcome Ben Wang as our new Head of Consumer Banking, China. Ben has been with us for several months and has very quickly made himself a key member of the Consumer Banking senior team. We are very fortunate to be able to make this management transition in a completely seamless manner, and I have every confidence that under Ben's leadership our Consumer Banking business will go from strong to stronger.

I am delighted to see John and Ben moving to new and positive opportunities. Please join me in extending our warmest wishes for their success in the future.

John will no doubt be announcing his farewell party-our last chance to witness his legendary party skills!-very shortly. I hope you will all be able to join us in the celebration.
