Sandra Hüller is "definitely not" used to the kind of attention she's getting after snagging a Best Actress Oscar nomination for her role in the courtroom drama, Anatomy of a Fall.

But that doesn't mean she isn't enjoying it. “I find myself giggling in the morning because it is so nice," the German actress said in a new interview with Variety. "When I walk my dog, people are shouting congratulations at me. People I’ve never seen before!”

Hüller told Variety that she shared the curiosity of the film's audience, wondering whether her character, also named Sandra, killed her husband. “Of course, I wanted to know whether she was guilty or not," Hüller said, "but my director didn’t tell me. She just said a horrible, horrible sentence: ‘Play her like she’s innocent.’”

While the film has accumulated many accolades, including the prestigious Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival, it did not earn an Oscar nod for Best International Feature. Instead, France nominated The Taste of Things as its entry, a film that did not wind up earning a nomination.

Hüller is getting recognized for her nomination in Anatomy of a Fall, but she is out promoting two films that are up for Best Picture in 2024. She also stars in Jonathan Glazer's The Zone of Interest, about a family living next to the Auschwitz concentration camp during World War II. The Zone of Interest also earned five nominations, including Best International Feature, Best Achievement in Directing, and Best Adapted Screenplay.

"[With] Sandra and Anatomy of a Fall, I feel very much closer to her. The work on Zone of Interest, on one level it was more of a technical one ... It was also a lot about community and a lot about being in this place in Poland, being in Auschwitz and close to the memorial of Auschwitz and to just be present in this place."
